Last January, West Ham were chasing a new defensive midfielder and Gary Medel was identified as a top target.
According to Sky Sports News, Manuel Pellegrini was keen to team up with his fellow countryman to solve the problems in midfield and defence.
Medel can operate as a holding midfielder, centre-back or as a full-back, making him a useful option for West Ham’s depleted ranks.
But that move failed to materialise and he remained at Turkish top division side Besiktas.
Gary Medel move still on?

However, according to recent reports emerging from Turkey, Medel wants to quit Besiktas in the summer and he is open to joining West Ham.
According to Takvim, Medel’s representatives met with the club to confirm his desire to leave at the end of the season.
With his contract running until summer 2020, another club needs to buy him to ensure he gets his wish. And he has a move to Premier League side West Ham in sight after failing to complete that transfer last month.
Who is Gary Medel?

As mentioned above, Medel is a versatile player and he also has plenty of experience. The 31-year-old has played in Chile (Universidad Catolica), Argentina (Boca Juniors), Spain (Sevilla) and Italy (Inter Milan), as well as spending a season in the Premier League.
During the 2013/14 campaign, the 114-cap Chile international represented Cardiff City, although he suffered relegation with the Welsh side.
Now in Turkey, Medel looks likely to leave in the summer with West Ham a potential destination for the veteran midfield man.
