Experienced defender Francesco Acerbi has allegedly rejected the chance to join West Ham United from Lazio this summer.
That’s according to a report from Corriere dello Sport (print edition August 18th, page 17) who claim that the 34-year-old was a transfer target for Hammers boss David Moyes.

The 25-capped Italy international allegedly rejected the advances from the East London outfit though.

That’s fine as far as we’re concerned. West Ham ended up signing Thilo Kehrer from Paris Saint-Germain instead. And we have our doubts that Acerbi was even a transfer target for David Moyes in the first place.
It seems that the Italian press believe that he was though…
Francesco Acerbi rejects West Ham
According to a report from Corriere dello Sport (print edition August 18th, page 17), the 34-year-old centre-back has rejected the chance to move to the London Stadium this summer.
He could be available for around €5 million (£4.2 million) according to CDS.
Acerbi is a very solid defender. You don’t get 25 caps for Italy if you’re not a good player.

The thing is, he’s 34, and he certainly wouldn’t fit into the Red Bull model that Moyes supposedly wants to implement at the London Stadium.
As mentioned earlier, we honestly don’t believe that Moyes would have even been looking at the Italian.
Why would the Scot have brought a 34-year-old to the club when he already has experienced duo Angelo Ogbonna and Craig Dawson amongst his ranks at the London Stadium?
The signing of Thilo Kehrer is a really exciting move for the club. The Germany international looks like the real deal and £10.1 million seems like an absolute bargain.
However, had West Ham signed Lazio defender Francesco Acerbi, it would have felt like somewhat of a backwards step for the football club.
