Former West Ham striker Ashley Fletcher lands ‘really exciting’ transfer after prolific season

Former West Ham United striker Ashley Fletcher has landed himself a new club after posting the best scoring numbers of his career at Blackpool in 2025/26.

The well-travelled, late-blooming Fletcher is a member of West Ham’s oversized ‘zero goal club’.

A la Simone Zaza, Marco Borriello, Jordan Hugill, Marco Boogers, Mido, Benni McCarthy, Albian Ajeti, Marouanne Chamakh and Mladen Petric, the Manchester United academy graduate would not find the net even once in a claret and blue jersey.

What ADVICE would you give to Pablo Felipe?

17 games, zero goals…

Pablo of West Ham United looks dejected during the Premier League match between West Ham United and Everton at London Stadium on April 25, 2026 in London, England.

Pablo Felipe, at least, should have a season in the Championship to scrub his name off that dreaded list.

Fletcher would certainly find goals far easier to come by in the north west. So much so that Huddersfield Town, a side with real promotion ambitions, jumped at the chance to bring the ex-Blackpool talisman to Yorkshire.

Fletcher was in prolific form for Blackpool during much of 2025/26. He ended the campaign with 21 goals in an underachieving side. His best return since he was leading the line for Middlesbrough seven years prior.

Huddersfield racked up more goals than third-place Stockport County last season. So the addition of further firepower will surely see the Terriers mentioned among the early promotion favourites.

“Heading into this summer, my sole focus was on ensuring I joined the right side to make the most of my game and build on the form I’ve enjoyed in recent seasons,” Fletcher, who signs a two-year deal after his Blackpool contract expires, tells the official Huddersfield website.

“After speaking to Chris [Markham, sporting director] and Martin [Drury, manager] there was no doubt about signing for Town. And having played against the club so many times over the years, I couldn’t be more excited to now be on the same team.

“This is a big club with really exciting ambition.”

In the meantime, another of League One’s most potent marksmen is being linked with a move that would see him follow in Fletcher’s footsteps.

The Daily Mail say that joining West Ham appeals to Leyton Orient sensation Dom Ballard.

Sold by Southampton for just £1.5 million in 2025, Ballard racked up 23 goals in 45 games while claiming the division’s Player of the Year award.
