West Ham have sealed a deal to sign a potential future star of the game as Graham Potter’s vision becomes crystal clear.

One of the most important transfer windows in West Ham’s recent history will soon be upon us.

Logic says the Hammers cannot afford to make anymore mistakes this summer.

A brief glance at the Premier League table and exits at the third round stage of both domestic cups are all the evidence needed to conclude West Ham botched last summer’s rebuild attempt.

The 21-player overhaul last summer cost the club £155m in total.

Yet West Ham have regressed, badly.

Potter plotting youthful West Ham rebuild

It’s likely the Hammers will finish no higher than 13th, if they don’t get this summer window right and regress any further, the club will end up in a relegation battle.

Graham Potter and his head of recruitment Kyle Macaulay are reportedly looking to drive down the age of the oldest squad in the top flight.

Potter has vowed to always look to West Ham’s famed Academy first.

He has been true to his word with the likes of Ollie Scarles.

But the Premier League is an unforgiving beast and gone are the days of youngsters being given a run of games to get up to speed.

It is very much sink or swim.

The team is sorely lacking in a number of areas.

There has been a real absence of pace, energy and youthful exuberance about the Hammers for some time now.

It has showed in performances and results.

West Ham fans may now be seeing the club’s vision under Potter in the coming years, though.

The first of two big examples this week was academy midfielder Freddie Potts signing a new long-term deal until 2029.

At 21, that clearly means Potts is clearly seen as a first team player under Potter next season and for the future.

Joe Cole claims West Ham have top young talent coming through.

Now the Hammers have added another to the ranks.

Because a football scout claims West Ham have sealed a deal for a top class young star.

Ben Mattinson is a freelance football scout and analyst.

His work includes Youth Academy scouting.

West Ham sign teen winger Kerr and he’s backed for big things

He has been raving about Joel Kerr for some time.

Now West Ham have signed the seriously talented Northern Ireland winger from Glentoran.

And Mattinson says he ‘loves this move’, telling West Ham fans what they can expect.

Mattinson also states that Kerr will now form part of an impressive group emerging in east London who can completely rebuild the team.

“Joel Kerr signs for West Ham,” Mattinson said.

“One of Northern Ireland’s best players at the Victory Shield.

“Tenacious winger who can play either side, strong carrier who uses his body well to ride challenges and drive into the box.

“Good delivery from wide areas and half-spaces. Love this move.

“West Ham’s academy have a lot of players I like. The standard of their academy is very high and they could rebuild their first team with a core of academy players.

“Great environment for Kerr to be around.”

Glentoran convinced Kerr will be Hammers hit

Glentoran confirmed the 16-year-old’s move on a deal until 2028 ahead of joining up with the Hammers in the summer.

Glentoran claim West Ham beat off competition from ‘several top clubs across the UK and Europe’.

Paul Millar, Sporting Director at Glentoran, agrees with Mattinson.

“West Ham are gaining a fantastic young footballer,” Millar said in a statement on Glentoran’s website.

“We have no doubt Joel will be a success within their highly respected youth system and we’ll be watching his progress with pride.”

Andy Mathieson, Head of Player Development at Glentoran, says Kerr is a ‘natural footballer with real quality’ but says it is his attitude and work ethic that truly set him apart.

“From an early age, Joel stood out as a real prospect — someone with undoubted ability and the mindset to match,” Mathieson said.

“He’s worked incredibly hard on his game and always listened to the Academy staff. That blend of talent and mentality meant we always had high hopes for him. We’re excited to watch Joel continue his development at West Ham and we’ll be supporting him every step of the way.”
