Jesse Lingard could be set for a surprise return to West Ham United, according to a report emanating from France.
West Ham boss David Moyes brought Jesse Lingard to the London Stadium on loan in January 2021 for four months, and he was a huge hit with the Hammers.
Lingard bagged nine goals and four assists in just 16 Premier League games for West Ham, and he played a key role in our top six finish in the table.
The 31-year-old returned to Manchester United after his successful spell in East London though, and we have been constantly linked with the now free agent ever since.
In the summer, we were believed to be very close to offering a short-term deal to Lingard after he was desperately trying to prove his fitness to Moyes.
That obviously didn’t work out, and he was all set to move out to Saudi Arabia. That hasn’t happened though, and Jesse is still available on a free transfer. Enter West Ham again it seems…
West Ham linked with another Jesse Lingard move
Lingard hasn’t played any competitive football for so long now – his last match was on April 16th of this year in fact.
The 31-year-old endured a disastrous campaign with Nottingham Forest last season, and he seemed to be a shadow of the player he once was.
However, it seems like Lingard is far from done playing at the very highest level of the game, with West Ham and Lille amongst the clubs interested in signing him on a free transfer.
Foot Mercato journalist Sebastien Denis is claiming that the Hammers are lining up yet another move for the 32-capped England international:
I have to say, this would be a horrendous signing, but I don’t believe for one minute that Moyes would sign him again now.
Jesse Lingard has messed West Ham around twice over the past two years, searching out the biggest pay-day he could find rather than join a club where he knows he’d be welcomed with open arms.
That’s certainly not the case anymore. Surely Moyes has moved on from his obsession with the 31-year-old.
If the Scot re-signed Jesse, there would be a lot of unhappy people at the London Stadium.
