Felipe Luis's Atletico Madrid departure all but confirmed and it is a no-brainer for West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini

West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini could benefit from the Felipe Luis’s imminent departure from Atletico Madrid.

Pellegrini is reportedly targeting two new strikers, a box-to-box midfielder, a back-up goalkeeper and a left-back this summer.

It comes as once evergreen Aaron Cresswell’s West Ham career continues to falter due to a succession of injuries.

Pellegrini must spend budget wisely

Recent reports claim Pellegrini’s base summer transfer budget will be just £30 million (Claret & Hugh).
Although that will be topped up with money from any departures.
But the Chilean has the opportunity to sign experienced Brazilian left-back Luis on a free transfer after reports from Spain this week confirmed he will leave Atletico Madrid.

Reports claim Luis departure imminent

The former Chelsea fullback, 33, is on his way out of Atleti as a result of the club’s strict policy not to offer contracts of more than one year in length to any player over the age of 30.
Marca reported last week Luis could leave the club.
Now Diario AS has confirmed that is the case, as also reported by Football Espana.

No-brainer for Pellegrini?

If Pellegrini can persuade Luis to return to the Premier League, he could solve a problem position with a player of great experience who would not need time to settle into the country and London life.

And crucially they will not eat into Pellegrini’s tight budget leaving more money for the striker overhaul.

Luis has great pedigree and experience with over 600 games under his belt for club and country and is in great physical condition.

Surely a no-brainer for West Ham.
