Portuguese outfit Famalicao may have dropped a hint that star midfielder Gustavo Sa is on his way to West Ham amid reports a move is imminent.

With one month to go until the new season gets underway, the Hammers are yet to make a signing.

At the weekend it was reported West Ham were close to an exciting first new arrival in the form of Gustavo Sa.

The links make sense given the all-action Portugal Under 21 captain has worked under new Hammers assistant boss Rui Pedro Silva and counts Jorge Mendes as his agent.

Superagent Mendes also represents Nuno Espirito Santo and the pair always work closely together on transfers.

Reports in Portugal have claimed Sa will join West Ham for £17.5m and on a five-year deal as the club aims for an immediate return to the Premier League.

Now Famalicao may have dropped hint that Sa is on his way to West Ham.

Sa was pictured in training for the Portuguese side earlier this week.

But on Tuesday it was notable that Sa was not present in any of the 22 training photos posted on Famalicao’s official Instagram.

Of course there may be other reasons Sa was not present at training, such as injury or illness.

But given his absence comes amid intense rumours he is West Ham bound then it is certainly notable he did not appear.

Later in the evening the club did post a video of Sa answering questions but it may have been pre-recorded content for social media on their return to pre-season training.

West Ham insider ExWHUemployee has stated there is an interest in Sa but has played down reports suggesting the move is close.

Speaking on his West Ham Way Patreon, ExWHUemployee stated that no transfers are currently close.

Although that is expected to change following the appointment of Nils Koppen as head of recruitment and the club’s return to pre-season training.
