Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that West Ham are set to miss out on one of their prime targets to replace Declan Rice after an Edson Alvarez decision.
With Declan Rice edging closer to his emotional West Ham exit, David Moyes is honing in on who he wants to replace him.
Earlier this week Italian transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano reaffirmed West Ham’s interest in Ajax’s Mexican midfield destroyer Edson Alvarez.
It was also reported last week that ‘work was going on behind the scenes’ after West Ham identified Alvarez as one of their prime targets to replace Rice.
Romano then provided an honest but encouraging update on West Ham’s pursuit of Alvarez amid interest from Borussia Dortmund.

Fabrizio Romano confirms West Ham are set to miss out on prime target to replace Declan Rice after Edson Alvarez decision
There has been a major development, though, and it looks like bad news for the Hammers.
Romano has confirmed West Ham have missed out on a prime target to replace Rice after an Alvarez decision.
“Edson Alvarez has almost agreed personal terms with Borussia Dortmund… and it’s all set to start concrete talks between BVB and Ajax,” Romano said on Twitter.
“Official bid set to be submitted next week to accelerate on the deal.”

Targets dwindling for Moyes?
There is no denying it is a major blow for West Ham.
It comes amid reports the Hammers could also miss out to Fulham for another midfield target – James Ward-Prowse.
In better news, though, a former West Ham reporter has claimed the Hammers have received encouragement that a £50m deal can be done with Fulham for unrivalled defensive midfielder Joao Palhinha.
And as a result his agents flew to London this week for ‘further talks’ over a deal.
As pointed out on Hammers News yesterday, West Ham missing out to Fulham for Ward-Prowse could be a clear indication that Palhinha might be London Stadium bound.
West Ham have also been linked with a bargain £3.5m move for Atletico Madrid midfield monster Geoffrey Kondogbia.
