When speaking on the West Ham Way Podcast (Tuesday, February 4th), reliable insider ExWHUemployee has claimed that West Ham were keen to sign Olivier Giroud from Chelsea in January.

The Hammers desperately needed to sign another centre-forward in January, with £45 million summer signing Sebastien Haller struggling to establish himself in the Premier League.

David Moyes did get a deal for Jarrod Bowen over the line, but the 23-year-old is more suited to playing out on the wing.

It really is a shame that West Ham didn’t push for another striker, however. It seems as though all their time and effort was devoted to getting the deal for Bowen done.

ExWHUemployee claimed that the Hammers were interested in signing Chelsea hitman Giroud, when speaking on the West Ham Way podcast last night (Tuesday, February 4th):

“There was some talk of going for Giroud, but things didn’t work out there.”

Signing someone like Giroud would have been an excellent move

Sebastien Haller could have learned so much from the way in which the 97-capped France international holds the ball up and brings others into play.

The 33-year-old has played just 192 minutes of Premier League action this season. And he has still won seven aerial duals during that time (Who Scored).

Giroud’s Premier League record speaks for itself. In 225 appearances for Arsenal and Chelsea, the Frenchman has racked up 78 goals and 28 assists. He has created 40 big chances during those outings (premierleague.com).

The experienced hitman remained at Stamford Bridge, however. He is out of contract in the summer though (Transfermarkt), so perhaps West Ham will go back in for him then, if they do in fact stay up.
