ExWHUemployee claimed that West Ham are interested in signing Sampdoria midfielder Ronaldo Vieira this month, when speaking on the West Ham Way podcast last night (Tuesday, January 21st).
The Hammers are desperately short in central midfield. And they need to bolster their ranks this month if they are to stand a chance of avoiding the drop this season.
And Vieira might just be a decent option for them.
Reliable insider Ex claimed that the midfielder is on West Ham’s radar, when speaking on the West Ham Way podcast last night (Tuesday, January 21st):
“Someone I have been told that we are interested in is Ronaldo Vieira. He’s played for England under-21’s before. He’s currently at Sampdoria. He is someone who we are interested in. That is an exclusive for this podcast.”
Is he the type of player David Moyes needs?
Vieira, 21, joined Sampdoria from Leeds United in the summer of 2018, for a fee believed to be worth £6.2 million, according to the Guardian.
The Guinea Bissau-born England under-21 international has experience of English football, although never the Premier League.
He is a tenacious tackler and relishes the physical challenge, however. Vieira is dynamic, energetic and would add some real athleticism to the Hammers’ central midfield department.
The Sampdoria ace is also at the right age for West Ham. The east London outfit need to recruit young talents with high ceilings, and Vieira certainly fits that profile.
Whether the Hammers can tempt the Serie A outfit into selling the former Leeds man this month, however, remains to be seen. With 20 appearances to his name already this season, that might prove problematic for West Ham.
The 21-year-old has played a key role for Sampdoria since his move from England 18 months ago.
He would be a signing that the Hammers fans could really get behind, however, if Moyes is successful in bringing him to the London Stadium.
