West Ham plan moves for striker and defender after missing out on bargain deal – insider

West Ham made Tomas Soucek’s deal permanent and signed Vladimir Coufal, Craig Dawson and Said Benrahma in the summer window.

But the club is still short in several key areas including up front and central midfield. And Hammers boss David Moyes is still on the hunt for a top quality central defender with Dawson only on loan as cover.

Moyes still short in key areas

Most of what remained of West Ham’s summer budget will be spent if and when Benrahma’s move is made permanent at the end of the season.

With no change to the Covid situation on the horizon money will still be tight for West Ham come the January window.

There have been reports from the likes of Football Insider that West Ham have lined up a cut-price deal for Josh King with his contract up at Bournemouth in the summer.

And according to Twitter and podcast personality ExWHUemployee, West Ham could look to take advantage of that kind of scenario with eyes on six other players in similar positions.

Insider claims seven players on West Ham’s radar for January

Speaking on The West Ham Way podcast on October 28th, Ex says West Ham are interested in a host of players whose contracts expire next summer.

The players named include King, Sheffield United’s John Lundstram, Porto striker Moussa Marega, Napoli centre-back Nikola Maksimovic, Torino defender Nicolas Nkoulou, Bournemouth centre-half Steve Cook and Huddersfield midfielder Juninho Bacuna.

“He (Lundstram) is someone we’ve looked at before, box-to-box midfielder, he was at Everton with David Moyes,” ExWHUemployee said on The West Ham Way podcast on October 28th.

“Moyes knows about him, as does (Alan) Irvine and I think there will be a potential move for him in January.

‘Wouldn’t surprise me if we moved for them in January’

“There’s a lot of ‘ifs and buts’ until then but it wouldn’t surprise me because I know he’s been on the radar.

“Other players who’ve been on the radar, whose contracts are up in the summer, who we could potentially move for in January are Moussa Marega, he’s a striker at Porto, we’ve been heavily linked with him for years, his contract’s up, so if (Michail) Antonio does continue to be injured that could be an option…

“Now there are no moves for these players at this point. Lundstram I expect there probably will be a move at some point soon. But these are potential players that wouldn’t surprise me if we made a move for them in January.”
