West Ham United are keen on signing former Brentford striker Ivan Toney in the January transfer window.

Nuno Espirito Santo wants the West Ham United hierarchy to bolster the attack in the coming weeks, to give his side the best chance of avoiding the drop.

Callum Wilson has been the first-choice option for Nuno this season, but he cannot be relied on to play 90 minutes in each game.

Ivan Toney’s wages are a stumbling block for West Ham

Hammers News can reveal that West Ham have already explored the option to sign Toney in the January transfer window.

The club have been impressed with his stint in the Premier League for Brentford and are keen on bringing him back to the United Kingdom.

Toney prefers a Premier League move as he wants to be a part of Thomas Tuchel’s 2026 World Cup squad.

However, sources tell Hammers News that the Irons are unlikely to sign him, as things stand.

His wages at Al Ahli are astronomical and a major stumbling block for the East London outfit.

Unless the 28-year-old agrees to take a major pay cut, the deal is unlikely to happen in the coming weeks.

Ivan Toney can save West Ham from relegation. Are there any better options this January?

How can West Ham convince Toney to join?

There could be four West Ham players who leave in January and their exits will not only rake in transfer fees but also free up space on the wage bill.

This could potentially see them loaning Toney, with him taking a small pay cut.

Nuno would most certainly play to his strengths and having players like Jarrod Bowen, Crysencio Summerville and Lucas Paqueta around him would only benefit the England international.

While the quality of the Saudi Pro League appears to be rising, Toney will be aware that if he is to be taken seriously by Tuchel, he will have to deliver in one of Europe’s top five leagues, particularly the Premier League.

Harry Kane may not be the go-to starter at the Euros in 2028 and that competition could be the one Toney targets to be England’s first choice.

Moving to West Ham and becoming a regular goal scorer there would certainly boost his chances of doing so.
