Both players were said to be Moyes targets as he and new technical director Steidten wrestled for control of West Ham’s summer recruitment.

But according to the likes of The Guardian and a host of other outlets at the time, Moyes vetoed the move – causing tensions with Steidten.

Fofana could now join Man United in January
According to Fabrice Hawkins, Fofana – who reportedly came close to joining Nottingham Forest following the Moyes snub – is wanted by Man United as well as Juventus and PSG.
“Juventus is interested in Youssouf Fofana,” RMC Sport reporter Hawkins said.
“The Italian club has supervised him on several occasions in recent months.
“Man United and PSG are closely monitoring the evolution of the midfielder.
“The Monegasque is under contract until June 2025.”
Hammers could find out who has better transfer judgement
West Ham eventually found some middleground between Moyes and Steidten targets in the summer.
And the signings of Edson Alvarez, James Ward-Prowse, Mohammed Kudus and Konstantinos Mavropanos have been widely praised.
Many Hammers fans were excited at the prospect of signing Fofana and were disappointed it did not happen.
Moyes spoke out in the summer revealing he had told Steidten many of his targets didn’t have what it takes for the Premier League.
West Ham fans may now find out whether the Scot made the right call on Fofana if he does join Man United in the January transfer window.
