According to ExWHUemployee, West Ham are interested in AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek, and have scouted the Poland international on several occasions.
The Hammers desperately need to add some more firepower to their ranks this month.
Sebastien Haller arrived from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer for around £45 million (BBC), but he has struggled to establish himself at the London Stadium thus far, scoring just six goals.
Italian media outlet Corriere Della Sera claimed yesterday that West Ham are closely monitoring Piatek’s situation at the San Siro, as they look to beef up their attacking options.
And ExWHUemployee verified those claims, when speaking on the West Ham Way podcast last night (Tuesday, January 6th), suggesting that the Hammers’ have scouted Piatek on several occasions:
“We did have scouts at the Milan vs Sampdoria game, because there are players at Milan who we would like to get on loan if we could. They’ve got a forward called Piatek who has been watched a number of times by us.”
Could he be the man to take West Ham to the next level?
The 24-year-old hitman hasn’t been in the best of form since joining Milan for £31 million this time last year (Sky Sports), with just 15 goals in 39 appearances to his name.
In fact, Football.London claimed at the time that the Hammers wanted to sign Piatek, but were beaten to his signature by the Serie A giants.
He has struggled this season, with a poor tally of just four goals in 18 games for Milan.
But that isn’t to say that Piatek doesn’t still have a lot to offer at the very highest level.
He proved during his time with Genoa what he is capable of, scoring 19 goals in 21 games.
The Poland international is a big and strong centre-forward, and he seems to be ideally built for the Premier League.
Out of his 18 games for Milan this season, he has only completed the 90 minutes seven times. So a run of regular action playing alongside Haller at West Ham could bring out the best in him.
If the Hammers could get him on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season for a reasonable fee, it must be something that they pursue.
Piatek is definitely good enough to take West Ham to the next level.
