A respected European football expert has made a seriously exciting claim about Darwin Nunez joining West Ham United.

Signing a quality striker is right at the top of the agenda for both David Moyes at West Ham this summer.

Moyes has Michail Antonio as West Ham’s only serious senior striker option and has failed to get a forward signed in the last two and a half windows.

That has to change this summer and West Ham dropped a massive hint about the man they want when they tried but failed to buy Darwin Nunez from Benfica in January (90 min and Sky Sports).

Speculation has been rife since that West Ham will move again for the Uruguayan when the summer window opens in June.

But West Ham’s interest has also alerted other clubs with the likes of Tottenham and Inter Milan also reportedly interested.

Nunez has showed his quality at the highest level with Benfica, scoring the goal against Ajax which sealed their place in the Champions League quarter-finals.

And he was on the scoresheet again last night in a defeat to Liverpool to take his Champions League tally this season to five in nine games.

And now a European football expert has made a seriously exciting claim about Nunez joining West Ham.

Speaking on talkSPORT, respected Euro football expert Andy Brassell gave an insight as to what kind of player Nunez is and where his future could lie. And it is good news for West Ham.

“Darwin Nunez has already been pretty closely inclined to the Premier League a couple of times,” Brassell told talkSPORT.

“Benfica decided they wanted him so badly (from Almeria) that they paid a lot more than they intended to pay in the first place, over €20 million (£16.5m).

“But he’s proved absolutely worth it, I think when they bought him they did have in mind they would sell him to a Premier League club at some point, and he’s got all the attributes that make you think he would end up in England at some point.

“He’s strong, he’s physical, can hold the ball up, he’s a great finisher of course, but he can also run the channels as well.

“He’s just a bull of a centre-forward, he occupies defenders and not just one defender, but central defenders so well… despite everything that’s been going on around him, change of coach, he’s been keeping his head down and been brilliant…

“West Ham were very interested in signing him, but wouldn’t go up to the €60m that Benfica wanted in winter. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up there at some point.”
