Would you want Loic Remy and Julio Cesar?
This week, following QPR drawing with Wigan Athletic last weekend, West Ham United have been linked with their two main stars, notably French striker Loic Remy, and Brazilian National Team Goalkeeper, Julio Cesar.
The question is, do we want them? We certainly need players of their ability, but let’s get one thing straight, they didn’t sign for QPR thinking they were going to challenge for the top 6. They signed for QPR because they got the most money there. Loic Remy was on the brink of signing for Newcastle United on January Transfer Deadline Day, but miraculously, QPR ‘persuaded’ him that Loftus Road was where it was happening.
Julio Cesars signing in the summer was a surprise, especially after they had lured another money grabber, namely Rob Green, from us. Green started poorly, and Cesar was brought in and established the Number 1 spot as his. But you can’t tell me that the Brazilian Number 1, and a player playing for Inter Milan, didn’t have any other offers?
However, both players have certainly shown how good they are in the short time they have been in West London. Julio Cesar has certainly earned a lot of QPR’s points from his goalkeeping alone. He looked World Class when he played us at Upton Park. And Remy has scored 5 in 9 games. He scored a brilliant goal at the weekend, and has added pace and finishing to a lacklustre QPR frontline.
Both players are in positions we need to strengthen in the summer. As good as Jaaskelainen has been, his handling is poor, as is his distribution. And with West Ham being priced out of moves for Bony and Carroll, Remy is likely to be available for a much smaller fee. Also, with the signing of Remy, it’s not Big Sams classic big centre forward. This would mean a change in our style of play. This appeals to me, it means we would be playing on the floor in order to play in Remy.
Personally, I would like to see both in West Ham shirts next season. I’m sure there will be plenty of interest in them, but for once, it will be nice to pick off the best players from other teams, rather than other teams doing it to us!
