Indecisive West Ham have left the door open for bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur to hijack Graham Potter’s first signing.

Wets Ham and Tottenham Hotspur are both on the hunt for a new striker in the January transfer window.

Injuries have decimated the options at the disposal of new Hammers boss Graham Potter and Spurs counterpart Ange Postecoglou.

Tottenham have confirmed £65m summer signing Dominic Solanke is out for six weeks.

West Ham meanwhile have lost Michail Antonio and their own summer striker signing Niclas Fullkrug to long-term injuries too.

The Hammers have been deliberating over a host of striker targets since Potter’s arrival earlier this month.

West Ham’s owners confirmed Potter had not been keen on many of the options presented to him thus far.

That all changed this week, though.

West Ham and Spurs in the market for new striker

It was reported West Ham were closing on their first signing of the Potter era.

After persistent links to RB Leipzig flop Andre Silva, West Ham were suddenly closing in on a much more exciting deal overnight.

But now their fierce rivals Tottenham are looking to derail it.

And it looks like Daniel Levy may get one over on David Sullivan.

It’s disaster for West Ham as deal dithering opens the door for Spurs to hijack their exciting striker move.

It was claimed Ajax ace Brian Brobbey was heading to London for a medical with the Hammers this morning.

After that news broke, though, there was a worrying update from West Ham on the Brobbey deal.

Because the deal was not as advanced as originally reported with negotiations still ongoing between West Ham and Ajax.

The Irons kept Silva on the back burner as an alternative.

But after links to powerful, pacy stars like Brobbey and Jhon Duran, West Ham fans are extremely underwhelmed by the prospect of signing ageing, injury-prone nomad Silva.

The Portuguese may end up being their only option, though, after Spurs hijacked the move for Brobbey.

That’s according to transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano.

In an update on Friday evening, Romano claims Tottenham have now muscled in on the deal.

And while West Ham ‘remain in contact’, Spurs have asked for the conditions to get the Brobbey deal signed and sealed.

Romano says the 22-year-old Dutch striker is now one of the options being considered by Tottenham.

The Hammers have been in direct talks with Ajax over a loan with obligation.

West Ham’s initial indecision between Brobbey and Silva has left the door wide open for Spurs to swoop.

The transfer market is cut throat. Especially in January.

Hammers can’t allow Spurs to hijack Brobbey deal

While they may have been acting like it of late, West Ham are the only club in the Premier League with injury problems.

The Hammers need to be alive to that fact and what players their rivals are looking at.

There’s not much to choose between West Ham and Tottenham in the table right now. Both are having unacceptably poor seasons.

Long term, Brobbey would surely get more game time with the Hammers given the lack of striker options Potter has.

Brobbey is the one striker who has had Potter’s approval.

Many West Ham fans have been excited about the prospect too.

To now potentially miss out to Spurs will be a bitter pill to swallow.

West Ham cannot allow that to happen or things could start to turn toxic around the club.
