This week there has been a rumour going round that Mohammed Diame has a release clause in his contract. It is rumoured to be in the region of £7m and although this seems to be a good price for someone we got on a free, he is a crucial member of the team. In this article I will investigate in what
Diame has done since his summer move.
Mohammed Diame signed for West Ham this summer on a free transfer from Wigan. At the time he was said to have been in advanced talks with Liverpool over a move but talks broke down, with West Ham stepping in. This has so far this season proved to be a shrewd move by West Ham after impressing on numerous occasions. He is often seen bossing the defensive midfield role, but is not afraid of bombing up the pitch. This proved to be the case against Arsenal when he scored a wonderful curled shot at a very tight angle, allowing us to go one nil up.
Now down to the statistics. Well so far this season has helped the team to five clean sheets out of a possible eleven. This is quite good considering that one of them was against Manchester City. He has also had 12 shots this season resulting in one goal. This has equated to 1.09 shots per match, this shows that he is not afraid of getting forward to try and grab a few goals. Momo has also committed 23 fouls collecting 2 yellow cards in the process. Two yellow cards is not bad considering the role that he plays within the team.
Personally I wouldn’t like to see Diame go and I am sure that many fans would also agree. He has also been quoted saying that he fought off a lot of interest from other top clubs to West Ham so I think that he will not be moving anywhere in the near future. However there will be some clubs that will try and test us in January especially with the £7m release clause. Momo is a fans favourite and also a squad regular, so if he did go it would be quite a big gap to fill.
