Depressing news as West Ham are linked with move to sign Crystal Palace player in the January window

West Ham United need to make some strong additions to our squad in the January window.

Julen Lopetegui made nine new signings for West Ham in the summer, but hardly any of them have worked out.

West Ham are said to be in talks to sign multiple new players right now, and that’s obviously good news.

However, I want the Hammers to be targeting the cream of the crop, not ageing has-beens.

Our recruitment has been extremely questionable over the past few years.

And it seems like it’s not set to get much better any time soon.

West Ham linked with January window move for Palace man

West Ham are keen to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Will Hughes in the January window, according to a report from Give Me Sport.

Now, I’m not saying the 29-year-old is a bad player – he’s decent to be fair.

However, are West Ham really at the stage where we’re picking up scraps from Crystal Palace for nominal fees?

Is this what moving to a world-class stadium in order to attract world-class players really meant?

I’m sorry, but I cannot get on board with West Ham signing Will Hughes from Palace, not one little bit.

The Hammers should be far more ambitious than that.

I would love it if, going forward, our recruitment was centred around signing young players with huge ceilings BEFORE they become stars.

Much like what they do at Brighton and Brentford. That’s not how the club operates though unfortunately.

Moving to sign Will Hughes in the January window would be so typically West Ham, and it’s further evidence that our owners lack the ambition needed to really take us on to the next level.
