Quite why clubs like West Ham United leave transfer dealings until the very last minute is unclear, but that is exactly what has happened during the 2026 January transfer window.
It all started so positively, too.
Indeed, West Ham United made quick-fire moves to sign Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe, but progress then stalled.
While West Ham have been busy in the 2026 January transfer window, they have only since signed a developmental talent in the form of Keiber Lamadrid and a winger in the sizeable shape of Adama Traore.
Pretend YOU call the shots – who are you signing on Deadline Day?! 🤑
Feel free to name one REALISTIC target and one DREAM addition 😂
The club remain in hot pursuit of a new defender, with Axel Disasi now linked with West Ham.
In fact, Hammers News understands that West Ham are trying to make signings on Deadline Day as they do all they can to retain their Premier League safety with only 14 games left to play.
Time is running out, however, and the January transfer window closes at 7pm GMT on Monday, 2 February, 2026.
Still, the infamous deal sheet could yet save them.
What is a deal sheet on Deadline Day?
If clubs submit a deal sheet before that time, they will be afforded a further two hours to get a deal over the line.
It would need to arrive fully completed and show that a deal has been agreed with another club.
Should that happen, West Ham would have until 9pm GMT to complete the rest of the documentation.
Would you take relegation if it meant that David Sullivan would leave?! 🤔
When West Ham have used a deal sheet before
This is not an alien concept for the Hammers.
In fact, back in October 2020, West Ham submitted a deal sheet to sign Said Benrahma from Brentford.
Benrahma proved to be a successful signing for the club, making 155 appearances for the club and scoring West Ham’s first goal in the Conference League final against Fiorentina back in the summer of 2023.
