Athletic journalist David Ornstein says French West Ham striker target Marcus Thuram is now available for just £10-15m this summer.

West Ham were heavily linked with a move for the Borussia Monchengladbach striker last summer, as reported previously on Hammers News.

Thuram, son of France World Cup winner Lilian, is an extremely versatile forward who can play on either wing too.

He started life as a winger with Sochaux and Guingamp before a big move to Monchengladbach, where he has scored 21 goals in 80 appearances.

West Ham allegedly scouted Thuram while pondering a move in August. That did not materialise, though, and the powerful 24-year-old stayed in Germany, where he has one year left on his contract this summer.

In the end West Ham failed to sign a new forward, either last summer or in January, so that search will continue into the next window.

Moyes has always stated he wants young, hungry, athletic and powerful players who are hungry to prove themselves at the top level.

There is a general consensus of opinion with Thuram that he has all the attributes needed to seriously catch fire as a striker under the right manager, in the right team.

And respected Athletic journalist Ornstein says West Ham striker target Thuram is now available for just £10-15m this summer.

“The competition to sign strikers such as Erling Haaland and (another West Ham target) Darwin Nunez not only shows their quality and potential but also the scarcity of elite,” Ornstein reports on The Athletic.

“Further speculation is certain over the futures of leading forwards such as Mbappe, Robert Lewandowski, Harry Kane and Lautaro Martinez, but there is no guarantee they will move on. This will place greater emphasis on the level below such high-profile options and within that realm is said to be the Borussia Monchengladbach’s Marcus Thuram.

“Thuram has been linked with a host of big-name clubs in recent years and, despite enduring a disappointing season, it is anticipated there will be numerous suitors for the versatile attacker, 24.

“The Frenchman is approaching the final 12 months of his contract and The Athletic understands they will try to sell Thuram in the next window for a fee of £10-15 million, rather than lose him on a free transfer in 2023.”

It will certainly give Moyes food for thought ahead of the summer window opening on June 10th.

In reality West Ham need two new forwards. So having someone like Thuram, with his power and versatility, could be ideal as the second striker signing.

Especially if Moyes can do what he did with Marko Arnautovic and Michail Antonio in converting them from inconsistent wingers to strikers to be feared on their day.

AT £10-15m it could certainly be worth a gamble.
