David Ornstein suggested that West Ham United are ‘obviously in the driving seat’ to sign Jesse Lingard on a permanent deal from Manchester United in the summer, when speaking on the Ornstein and Chapman podcast.

The 28-year-old joined the Hammers on loan from Man United in January.
And Lingard has absolutely lit it up at the London Stadium.
The 27-capped England international has racked up eight goals and three assists in only nine Premier League games for West Ham so far.
The West Ham fans are desperate for Jesse to be snapped up on a permanent deal this summer. David Moyes will be very keen to get it done as well.
David Ornstein claims West Ham in driving seat in race for Jesse Lingard
The Hammers will undoubtedly face competition from plenty of clubs for the 28-year-old’s signature in the summer.
Ornstein suggested that that Hammers are in pole position, however, when speaking on the Ornstein and Chapman podcast:
“When West Ham were negotiating with Manchester United to take Jesse Lingard on loan. West Ham tried to see if it was possible to insert an option to buy him, but Manchester United said no. I think they had a plan for the short-term and also had him in their mind for the long-term. I also think he has too much love and respect for them to let his contract go down to free agency. Therefore I don’t think it’s beyond the realms of possibility that he’s sold this summer, or signs a new contract and ends up being sold. I think West Ham pretty obviously would be in the driving seat, owing to what a good time he’s had there, but the way he’s playing there is definitely going to be some rivalry for him.”
Let’s hope that Lingard is so happy at the London Stadium that he will not want to play anywhere else next season.
One huge worry will be Manchester United offering him a new deal and guaranteeing him regular playing time next season.
That is highly unlikely with Bruno Fernandes at the club, however.
It seems to be written in the stars for Jesse Lingard to join West Ham permanently.
