David Moyes told reporters today that should Burnley stick to their £50 million valuation of James Tarkowski, West Ham will not be able to sign the centre-back, as quoted by Football.London.

The 27-year-old Clarets ace has emerged as the Hammers number one target over this past week.

The Telegraph reported last Friday that the Hammers made a £27 million bid for Tarkowski – one that the Clarets swiftly rejected.

The Evening Standard then suggested that West Ham are preparing an improved offer for the Burnley man.

ExWHUemployee confirmed those claims by suggesting that the east London club are prepared to bid in excess of £30 million for Tarkowski. And the Hammers insider also hinted that David Sullivan could be prepared to double the 27-year-old’s current wages.

It has been rumoured that the player isn’t keen on a move to the London Stadium.

Never ending saga typical of the Hammers’ approach to transfers

But the Daily Mail reckon that David Moyes has been encouraged that the Burnley ace is in fact keen to join West Ham, as the east London outfit line up  £30 million bid for the Englishman.

Moyes told reporters today that if Burnley demand £50 million for the centre-back West Ham will have no chance of signing him, however, as quoted by Football.London:

“£50m it would price us out. We certainly have taken a knock from Covid. We are trying to get good players to improve the squad. I want to pick ones I want. If Burnley and Sean say no then I have to respect that.”

Really, we should just move on from Tarkowski now. If we have £30 million plus to spend, it is probably more important that that is reinvested into a left-back, a right-back and a centre-back.

The likes of Rico Henry, Gonzalo Montiel and Djene Dakonam should all be featuring highly on Moyes’s agenda.

All those three players could be picked up for less than £30 million combined. So moving on from the Burnley man and moving for those three names instead really should be a no brainer for West Ham.
