David Moyes has admitted that he is not overly confident that West Ham will sign a striker before the transfer window closes at the end of this month.

The Hammers boss currently has Michail Antonio as his only centre-forward option at the London Stadium.
That quite clearly isn’t good enough considering we have Europa League football to play this season as well.
West Ham were primed to really kick on this season and take the jump up to the next level. Unfortunately for the club’s fans and Moyes, however, the owners have decided to stand still.
And in doing so, we have actually moved backwards, with every team around us in the Premier League strengthening their ranks.
David Moyes makes striker admission
In truth, West Ham should be looking to sign two strikers. We will all settle for one now, however, considering the pigs ear our owners have made of transfer negotiations thus far.
Moyes spoke to reporters yesterday and admitted that he’s not overly confident of signing a striker this summer:
“I wouldn’t say I’m overly confident. But I think that’s mainly due to the availability. It’s not that West Ham don’t want to sign a striker, or that I don’t want to buy one or the owners don’t want to buy one. It’s more to do with the availability.”
Moyes then went on to say:
“I don’t want to bring players to the club who are not going to be valuable. I could tick a box and sign a centre-forward which the media or everybody else would accept, maybe even the supporters. But I’m only going to bring players who I think will offer something to this team. I could sign a centre-forward but I’m trying to find one who I think will contribute, make a difference, help us and finding that at the right value, as well as having good statistical numbers, isn’t that easy.”
In some ways it’s nice to have a manager who is so intent on bringing in top class players and not just adding dross to his ranks.
It has got to the stage now where we just need bodies, however.
Strengthening the squad doesn’t necessarily mean signing players who are better than everyone in the current starting XI.

There are still 17 days remaining until the transfer window slams shut. So a lot can change. Let’s just wait until September 1st before making judgements and trust in Moyes to produce the goods.
