David Gold delight at exciting striker development as West Ham sign Ademipo Odubeko

West Ham United co-owner David Gold is a happy man this weekend.

West Ham may have lost their last two game ahead of the clash with Sheffield United.

But there was some very positive news on Friday when the Hammers completed the signing of highly-rated Manchester United striker Ademipo Odubeko.

West Ham announced the signing of the prolific Republic of Ireland Under 17 star on Friday (whufc.com) after weeks of speculation.

The likes of Juventus and Atletico Madrid were also interested in Odubeko (Football Insider).

West Ham land one of the hottest prospects around

Odubeko joins the Hammers after spending his schoolboy years at Manchester United.

There he made a name for himself as one of the hottest young properties around, scoring 35 goals and netting on his U18 Premier League debut last season.

The powerful centre forward, who turned 17 on Monday, was born and raised in the Republic of Ireland.

The Red Devils had offered Odubeko a new deal but he turned it down to sign for West Ham.

From the Emerald Isle to the East End, via Manchester, West Ham believe they have a top talent on their hands.

Gold star for Mipo

And that was not lost on David Gold, who took to Twitter to reveal his excitement.

“We are delighted to announce the signing of highly-rated young striker Ademipo ‘Mipo’ Odubeko,” Gold said on Twitter.

“The powerful centre forward, who turned 17 on Monday, was born and raised in the Republic of Ireland, for whom he has been capped at U17 international level.

“Welcome Ademipo. DG.”

Striker equally excited he is a Hammer

Odubeko seems just as delighted as Gold that he is now a Hammer.

“It’s a really exciting day,” he told whufc.com.

“I’ve been waiting for this move for a while, so I’m looking forward to getting started. West Ham is a club with a lot of history behind it. It promotes its young players, so it’s a great opportunity for me to develop my game and help the team.

“I’m looking forward to moving to London – it’ll be a little different to Manchester, so it’s an exciting challenge.”
