A new report has made a fresh claim about a move to West Ham United for Edin Dzeko this summer.
Widespread speculation has linked the Roma striker with the Hammers since December (The Sun).
The Bosnian star would be reunited with his old boss Manuel Pellegrini if he joins the East Londoners.
At 33 – and reportedly on £165,000 per week, some West Ham fans feel it would be another in a long list of questionable signings by the club.
Edin for East London? If Roma have their way
Indeed some reports claim West Ham would have to pay as much as £15million for Dzeko despite his contract being up in the summer of 2020.
But now a new report from Sky Sports claims that in fact it is Roma seeking out West Ham to offload the player.
The crucial line in the Sky Sports report states: “West Ham have been offered the chance to sign Roma striker Edin Dzeko, according to Sky sources.”
Back in January Pellegrini told reporters he was not looking to sign Dzeko.
Pellegrini rejected January interest
“I know him very well but we are not thinking about him at the moment,” Pellegrini said.
Dzeko’s goals helped Pellegrini set a new Premier League scoring record as they lifted the title at Manchester City.
The forward has broken scoring records in Italy with Roma.
But he is clearly now deemed surplus to requirements and is being actively touted to other clubs like the Hammers.
Roma desperation should ring alarm bells
Dzeko has endured a tough season with limited game time for Roma.
Most of his appearances have come from the bench and he has twice been involved in spitting incidents.
But he has still managed 13 goals to take his amazing career total to 319 goals in 693 games for club and country.
They say there is no smoke without fire. But Roma desperately trying to flog their deadwood should set alarm bells ringing for West Ham.
