There are conflicting reports over West Ham United’s move for AFC Bournemouth’s Josh King but an insider’s verdict does not bode well.
Two well-placed sources have reported that West Ham are in talks with King’s agent but are yet to make a bid for the striker.
West Ham shipped out nine first team players and signed just one over the summer.
Vladimir Coufal arrived and looks a quality addition.
But West Ham’s transfer dealings have left Moyes with just 20 senior players, three of whom are goalkeepers.
Moyes ‘happier with smaller squad’ but hints at signings
Moyes told whufc.com he prefers operating with a smaller squad. He also said West Ham have room to add to their squad before next Friday’s domestic transfer deadline.
Hammers supporters are not happy with the situation. Fans want to see quality players from the second tier added to the squad after a dismal international transfer window.
There has been excitement around the prospect of signing King.
And that was heightened when Bournemouth’s local paper The Daily Echo confirmed West Ham were in talks over signing the Norwegian forward.
Multiple reports claim West Ham in serious talks for King
According to The Daily Echo West Ham’s interest is real.
“Cherries striker Joshua King’s agent has been in talks with West Ham United,” the The Daily Echo reports.
“Cherries rejected a bid from Italian outfit Torino for King on Sunday – the offer understood to have been nowhere near the club’s valuation of the player.
“The Daily Echo understands, at the time of writing, there had been no bid as of yet from the Irons for King.”
That claim was then backed up during talkSPORT’s transfer update during the Jim White Show on Friday.
talkSPORT’s transfer reporter said there is a ‘real chance’ West Ham could get the King deal over the line. The report confirmed the Hammers were locked in talks with his agent Jim Solbakken.
And although they added the caveat it was ‘not yet cut and dried’ West Ham were very much favourites.
But the verdict from West Ham insiders Claret & Hugh is very contrasting.
The site’s bloggers Sean Whetstone and Hugh Southon have close links to West Ham co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold.
‘Seriously slim’ Insiders close to GSB deliver verdict that will anger fans
And no sooner had the talk of West Ham moving for King gathered pace than C&H have said there is a ‘seriously slim’ chance of it happening.
“Joshua King is unlikely to sign for West Ham in the next week!” Claret & Hugh claims.
“The Bournemouth forward who reportedly earns £45,000 per week on the south coast wants a massive pay rise almost doubling his wages and there is certain to be a huge agent’s fee involved as a result.
“This, together with Bournemouth’s valuation for the 28-year-old, means the chance of signing him before the October 16 deadline is seriously slim.”
So there is more transfer window pain ahead for the Hammers this week then it seems.
No wonder fans are utterly fed up.
