Sassuolo president Giovanni Carnevali has told Goal that Chelsea are interested in exercising their buy-back option for Jeremie Boga, after the forward was linked with a move to West Ham in January.
Italian publication Area Napoli claimed last month that the Hammers wanted to bring the 23-year-old back to the Premier League.
Sassuolo could be willing to sell the winger, according to Area Napoli. Although it is claimed that they would demand at least £21 million for the Ivory Coast international.
And now Giovanni Carnevali has told Goal that Chelsea have already opened talks regarding re-signing Boga:
“Chelsea can redeem him in June. We have a great relationship with the club and we already met them before Christmas – also for other business. We like to have a collaborative relationship. They can take him back but we can also re-sign him, everything is open.”
Is the forward worth £21 million?
Boga has hardly set the world alight in Italy. His stats are decent, but not great. So Chelsea reportedly wanting to bring him back to Stamford Bridge is a strange one.
In 22 Serie A outings for Serie A this season, the 23-year-old has averaged 4.4 dribbles, 0.9 key passes and 1.9 shots per game. The Ivorian has also been fouled 1.8 times per game on average in those outings. (Who Scored).
So it certainly seems like he loves to run at defenders. And he displayed just how quick he was when playing for Chelsea’s under-23’s a few years ago.
£21 million does seem like a lot of money for someone with Boga’s ability, however, and perhaps it wouldn’t be the end of the world if West Ham do in fact miss out on signing him to their London rivals Chelsea in the summer.
