Borussia Dortmund have released a statement as their sporting director Sebastian Kehl explains the situation regarding Niclas Fullkrug and a move to West Ham.
There has been claim and counter claim made about Niclas Fullkrug joining West Ham.
When talks with Aston Villa over Jhon Duran reached stalemate last week, the Hammers switched attentions to the Borussia Dortmund star.
Technical director Tim Steidten left West Ham’s US tour for his homeland Germany to hold talks over 31-year-old Fullkrug.
The transfer progressed rapidly in the last 48 hours.
So quickly in fact that it sparked conspiracy theories and scepticism among many West Ham fans.
Conflicting claims on West Ham move for Fullkrug
Some felt the Fullkrug move was just a ruse from the Hammers to force Villa’s hand over a deal for Duran.
Then claims emerged in Italy that Milan were trying to hijack the deal because a fee had still not been agreed between West Ham and Dortmund.
A top West Ham insider then claimed Fullkrug had flown to London to complete a move.
But it proved a false dawn with Fullkrug pictured in Switzerland training with the German giants.
That only served to add to doubts among some Hammers fans that a deal would be done.
This morning Fabrizio Romano gave the Fullkrug move his trademark ‘here we go’.
Romano reported that Fullkrug is in London today for his West Ham medical.

Club issues statement and director speaks on West Ham talks
Now there has been official confirmation of the situation from Dortmund.
The club has issued a statement and its sporting director has spoken on Fullkrug flying for West Ham talks.
In an article on the club’s official website and a post on social media, Dortmund have confirmed Fullkrug has now left their Bad Ragaz training camp for ‘talks with another club’.
“Niclas Fullkrug left the training camp in Bad Ragaz on Saturday morning,” Dortmund said.
“Borussia Dortmund has released the striker for talks with another club.”
Now the German club’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl has commented on Fullkrug’s talks with West Ham too.
Kehl explained it was never the club’s intention to push Fullkrug out.
But he suggested it was the player’s wish to talk to the Hammers about a move to the London Stadium.
Official confirmation as medical takes place
“It’s been exciting days at Borussia Dortmund,” Kehl said.
“Things escalated a bit. Honestly, it wasn’t our intention to push the Fullkrug issue. It developed quickly in the last two days, partly due to many discussions with the player.
“At the moment, we’ve released him for talks. We’ll see what happens today and tomorrow. That’s the current situation.”
Fullkrug was linked with a move to West Ham when his compatriot Steidten first arrived last summer.
Alan Shearer recently revealed that ex Hammers boss David Moyes told him he regretted snubbing Fullkrug after being offered the chance to sign the Euro 2024 star.
Some West Ham fans have questioned the move for Fullkrug given his age.
But Hammers News has laid out why Fullkrug is the perfect fit for West Ham.
