A club has dropped a huge hint that their exciting star is on his way out but is it to sign for West Ham or Chelsea?
With Gianluca Scamacca gone and Michail Antonio possibly on the way out too, there’s no doubt West Ham need to sign a striker before the transfer deadline.
And Chelsea are also on the hunt for a new forward after the injury which has sidelined new arrival Christopher Nkunku.
Club drops huge hint that exciting star Elye Wahi is on his way out but is it to sign for West Ham or Chelsea?
Somewhat unsurprisingly, Chelsea initially emerged as the favourites to sign 20-year-old France youth star Wahi from Montpellier.
The player had even visited the Chelsea training ground amid interest from the Blues.
But RMC Sport claimed West Ham tabled a £30m bid for Wahi. And he went against the grain by reportedly turning down Chelsea and stating he only wants West Ham.
Like most transfer involving West Ham, though, the deal has dragged on and Chelsea – as reported by the likes of Get French Football News, remain very much interested.
Now his club has dropped a huge hint that their exciting star Wahi is on his way out but is it to sign for West Ham or Chelsea?
“The striker is absent from the group, he will not play”
Because it is being reported in France that Montpellier has left Wahi out of their squad for the huge game against Lyon this weekend.
Foot Mercato reporter Sébastien Denis has repeated claims elsewhere stating Wahi is not in the Montpellier squad for Lyon amid the interest from West Ham, Chelsea and Ligue 1 rivals Lens.
“Elye Wahi absent from the group for OL-Montpellier,” Denis said.
“The MHSC striker will not play against OL.”
Wahi is clearly on his way out of Montpellier and it remains to be seen whether he really does ‘only want West Ham’ or whether Chelsea – or indeed Lens – can lure him to them instead.
Especially after Mauricio Pochettino reiterated in his Friday press conference that Chelsea will continue to monitor the market for a new forward following the injury to Nkunku.
Earlier today we reported on claims being made across The Channel that West Ham’s focus on trying to sign Jeremy Doku could well cost them the chance to bring Wahi to the London Stadium.
The striker looks likely to be on his way somewhere, whether West Ham get their man remains to be seen.
Wahi will have the perfect opportunity to assess West Ham and Chelsea this weekend as his suitors go head-to-head at the London Stadium on Sunday.
