Clever West Ham could play ace card to land Real Betis star Alex Moreno in transfer triangle

West Ham United boss David Moyes could use his cunning to land reported target Alex Moreno in the next window.

According to a report from Spanish media outlet Grada 3, West Ham are keen to sign the Real Betis full-back Moreno.

The Hammers certainly need a new left-back in the summer.

Aaron Cresswell is in rapid decline while Arthur Masuaku has failed to impress since moving to the London Stadium in the summer of 2016 and will be sold in the summer (Claret & Hugh).

Hammers hunt new left-back

Grada 3 claim West Ham want the attacking full back who, at 26, fits Moyes’s plan to build a new-look young, hungry Hammers side to last.

Moreno only joined Betis last summer for around £6.4 million (Grada 3) so they will be reluctant to see him leave for West Ham so soon.

But Moyes could play an ace card by relinquishing his interest in River Plate star Gonzalo Montiel – who is also a key target for Betis.

Transfer triangle between West Ham, Real Betis and River Plate

River Plate are expecting West Ham to make another move for full back Montiel once again in the summer, according to a report from Argentinian media outlet TNT Sports.

The Hammers attempted to sign the 23-year-old Argentine in January, according to TyC, who claim the Hammers made a £400,000 loan offer for the right-back, with an option to buy for £8.3 million in the summer.

According to a new report from Mundo Deportivo and Football Espana, Betis want Montiel too, though.

“Montiel is rumoured to prefer a move to La Liga, due to his dual Spanish nationality not creating any work permit or non-EU status issue,” Mundo Deportivo and Football Espana report.

Moyes could use cunning to land Moreno

So West Ham should use the transfer triangle as an opportunity to tempt Betis into selling Moreno.

If Moyes pulls out of the chase for Montiel, it will keep the Argentine’s price down.

And if West Ham give Betis the money they planned to spend on Montiel, everybody wins.

One thing is for certain Moyes has plenty of time to plan for the future.

With football shut down until April 30th at the earliest and no training taking place at the moment, all the Scot and his contemporaries can do is plan team selection, tactics and potential future transfers.
