West Ham United are reportedly at a crossroads over the future of influential playmaker Manuel Lanzini.
The future of West Ham star Lanzini has been cast into doubt.
The Agrentine missed most of last season after picking up a serious knee injury before the 2018 World Cup.
Despite the serious nature of the injury and some up and down performances when he returned to the team, West Ham were reported to be ready to hand the playmaker a new five-year deal (The Mirror).
West Ham at Lanzini crossroads?
That was followed by two separate reports linking Lanzini with a move away.
First to Turkey with Fenerbache (The Mirror) and then a return to his first club River Plate (TYC Sports in Argentina).
Then came speculation in West Ham circles – backed up by reliable insider ExWHUemployee – that Lanzini is not happy with the terms of the new deal he has been offered.
It has all left West Ham fans divided.
Some are angry at what appears to be yet another player trying to manipulate a situation to squeeze even more money out of the club.
Fans divided, and confused, after contrasting reports
Others feel Lanzini is one of West Ham’s most gifted players and should be rewarded as such.
A section of supporters believe the club should bump up his pay and keep him. Others feel he should be sold on.
But many fans seem to mistakenly be under the impression that West Ham are paying Lanzini just £35,000 per week.
When in actual fact the truth is double that.
True Lanzini wage no big secret
According to Spotrac, a comprehensive sports salary database covering everything from Premier League football clubs to the NFL, NBA and MLB, Lanzini is already on £70,000 per week.
He likely wants his wages to be more in line with the cash the likes of Javier Hernandez (£140,000 pw), Andriy Yarmolenko (£115,000 pw) Jack Wilshere (£100,000 pw) and Marko Arnautovic (£100,000 pw) are earning.
What happens next is anyone’s guess.
