West Ham United apparently now face huge competition from Chelsea in the race to sign one of our key targets in the January transfer window.

Both West Ham and Chelsea are said to be desperately looking for new additions in the January window.

Graham Potter is prioritising the addition of a new striker before Monday’s transfer deadline.

Coincidentally, the Hammers face Chelsea on the day the transfer window slams shut.

Hopefully we manage to get the signing of a striker over the line before the winter window closes.

Failure to do so would be an utter disaster for West Ham as far as I’m concerned.

Evan Ferguson is someone who is apparently closing in on a move to the London Stadium.

However, a spanner has just now been thrown in the works it seems.

The last thing we need is for Chelsea to enter the race to sign our alleged top transfer target.

But that’s seemingly exactly what has just happened.

According to a report from The Guardian, the Blues have thrown their hat into the ring in the race to sign Hammers target Evan Ferguson from Brighton.

That’s obviously terrible news for West Ham.

Potter is said to be very keen to bring his former player to East London from the south coast.

How good would it be having a proper striker leading the line for us in front of the likes of Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudus and Lucas Paqueta!

However, Chelsea’s interest in the Brighton man has certainly set the cat amongst the pigeons.

The only shining light for us is the fact that we may well be able to offer Ferguson the guarantee of more regular first-team action than Chelsea will be able to.

Will that be enough to tip the scales in our favour? Only time will tell…

Evan Ferguson is perfect for West Ham

At just 20, the Irishman has everything needed to go on and become a top star in the game.

He’s big and strong, and is well equipped at holding up the ball with his back to goal and linking up the play.

Ferguson proved during the 2022/23 season just how good he can be.

He took the Premier League by storm when leading the line for the Seagulls at just 18, under the guidance of Graham Potter nonetheless.

The 20-year-old bagged 10 goals for Brighton during that season, but his form in front of goal has dried up since then.

That’s fine – young strikers always have dips in form and their progress is seldom linear.

Evan Ferguson would be a sensational signing for West Ham in the January window, but Chelsea could be set to make our task of signing him an incredibly hard one unfortunately.
