According to a report from Sky Sports, Chelsea are keen on securing a £50 million signing from a Premier League club, so could the mystery man be West Ham centre-back Issa Diop?
The 22-year-old joined the Hammers from Toulouse for £22 million in the summer of 2018, according to BBC Sport.
Diop initially impressed at West Ham, but he has been in and out of the team this season, often overlooked in favour of Fabian Balbuena and Angelo Ogbonna.
Sky Sports reported last month that Tottenham were keen on signing the Frenchman, and that the Hammers value the defender at a minimum of £50 million.
So should West Ham sell if Chelsea do in fact bid for Diop?
The former Toulouse man is a very good player, and he has all the makings of a real superstar of the future.
But £50 million is a serious amount of money. Especially when it is considered that they paid just £22 million for him 18 months ago.
If West Ham can find a top class replacement for less than £50 million, then moving Diop on this month might not be a bad idea.
The east London outfit could even demand one or two Chelsea players as part of any kind of potential deal.
If West Ham do decide to move Diop on, however, they should try demanding at least £60 million for the centre-back. That kind of money would be almost impossible to turn down.
And if the Hammers reinvest the money in their playing squad, it might end up being a sensible move.
