Eurosport have claimed that Chelsea could switch their attention from West Ham ace Declan Rice to Borussia Dortmund starlet Jude Bellingham.
And if true, that is obviously great news for the Hammers.
Rice, who earns £60k-a-week according to the Daily Star, has been West Ham’s best player over the past two years or so. The 21-year-old’s consistency really has been incredible for someone so young.
And we should consider ourselves very lucky to have him.
Rice’s fine form over the past two seasons has clearly not gone unnoticed, however.
Chelsea have been tracking the England international for quite some time now. How they must regret letting him go when he was just 14.
Blues boss Frank Lampard was heavily linked with a move for the West Ham ace throughout the entire summer (The Telegraph). It seemed as though Chelsea would move heaven and earth to bring Rice to Stamford Bridge.
In the end, he stayed at the London Stadium, however.
The 21-year-old’s £70 million price-tag (Eurosport) may well have put Chelsea off signing him.
And it now seems that the west London outfit could switch their attention to Borussia Dortmund ace Jude Bellingham (Eurosport).
The 17-year-old dazzled us with his precocity whilst coming through the ranks at Birmingham City.
He joined Borussia Dortmund in the summer for around £30 million (BBC).
Bellingham has already made a huge impression with Dortmund, racking up one goal and two assists in 11 games (Transfermarkt). And he has been rewarded with an international cap for England already.
The Sun claims that the Dortmund starlet could now be worth upwards of £50 million.
If Chelsea do end up moving for Bellingham instead of Rice, it will be welcome relief for West Ham.
We desperately need to keep hold of the 21-year-old if we are going to make progress as a club.
David Moyes must do everything within his power to keep Rice at the London Stadium. And his task will be made a whole lot easier if Chelsea do in fact switch their attention to Bellingham.
