A centre-back Tim Steidten wants to partner Max Kilman has sent a come and get me plea to West Ham after a recent approach.

West Ham are on the hunt for a new centre-back but the options are dwindling.

Nice are asking too much for top Hammers target Jean-Clair Todibo, who reportedly prefers a move to Juve.

Lyon’s Jake O’Brien is on West Ham’s shortlist but Everton are said to be confident of luring him to Goodison Park.

Jacob Greaves has joined Ipswich and Nikola Milenkovic looks set to sign for West Ham’s Premier League rivals Forest.

West Ham splashed £40m on Max Kilman as their new first choice central defender.

The club can’t commit that kind of money on his partner and are keen to sell Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd to raise funds.

In the meantime focus seems to have shifted to a more attainable target.

A key feature of West Ham’s transfer strategy is that technical director Tim Steidten is targeting players aged between 18 and 25, who are pushing to leave or entering the final year of their contracts.

That makes them more feasible for West Ham’s budget.

Hammers News reported on claims from France last month that West Ham want to sign Oumar Solet from Red Bull Salzburg.

Better still the 24-year-old is reportedly available for just £8m as he enters the last year of his deal.

Austrian outlet Salzburger Nachrichten say the West Ham target ‘no longer feels comfortable’ at Salzburg club and wants to move.

The report even rates the chance of Solet leaving at ‘100 per cent’ while highlighting that West Ham have already been in contact with the former France Under 21 star.

“The central defender no longer feels comfortable in Salzburg and is keen to leave the club,” the report states.

“Roma, Wolfsburg and West Ham United are said to already be in contact with the 24-year-old Frenchman. However, the transfer fee of 10 million Euros (£8m) still seems too high.

“Likelihood of transfer: 100 percent.”

Solet is a great age and is an athletic, powerful player.

If Salzburg do sell Solet to West Ham, they will have to give 15 per cent of any sale to his former club Lyon.

Powerful presence Solet fits West Ham’s budget

When Steidten unveiled Luis Guilherme as West Ham’s first summer signing he made it clear the club is looking to sign versatile players who can play multiple positions and formations.

Steidten said it is ‘very important in the modern game’.

So it is worth noting that Solet can also play at right-back as well as centre-back.

And that’s another position West Ham are looking to strengthen this summer with links to Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Kyle Walker-Peters.

Solet has made 105 appearances for Salzburg, scoring four goals.

He stands at 6ft 4in and is a commanding presence.

Interestingly Steidten was in the mix to sign Solet from Lyon during his time as sporting director at Bayer Leverkusen.

West Ham fans can see what Solet might bring to the team in the video below.
