West Ham risk losing one of their prize assets this January. According to reports, Declan Rice is a wanted man.
The transfer story
Borussia Dortmund are keen on West Ham starlet Rice, as per The Sun.
The Bundesliga giants are hoping to poach Rice and Manchester City winger Phil Foden as they aim to raid the Premier League for its young talent.
Rice’s contract situation is well-documented. The Hammers are trying to get the 19-year-old to commit his future to the club but the two parties are at an impasse in negotiations.
With doubt over his future, Borussia Dortmund are hoping to snap Rice up.
The three-cap Republic of Ireland international, who is currently agonising over whether to switch allegiance to England, is one of West Ham’s best young talents.
Rice at West Ham
Rice moved to West Ham from Chelsea as a schoolboy. And his rise to the first-team has been very impressive.
Twice named Young Hammer of the Year, the London-born youngster is now a regular for the Irons.
After starting out as a centre-back, he has established himself as West Ham’s holding midfielder.
And each week, the talented teenager churns out some top performances. He is a fans’ favourite and plays with maturity beyond his years.
Rice has already played 39 senior games, despite his young age, and continues to improve as each match passes.
An increasing number of Englishmen are turning to the Bundesliga to continue their progress.
West Ham’s very own Reece Oxford spent a stint at Borussia Monchengladbach last season and many others have too.
And following Jadon Sancho’s success, the Bundesliga carries some appeal. Sancho moved from Man City to Borussia Dortmund and has since made his senior England debut aged 18.
Could Rice be the next to take that career path?
