El Gol Digital have claimed that Liverpool are keen to sign Aissa Mandi on a free transfer this summer in news that will be a blow to one of West Ham United’s summer transfer plans.

The 29-year-old centre-back is set to leave Real Betis as a free agent at the end of this season.

Hammers boss David Moyes has recently been linked with a move to sign the 60-capped Algeria international (El Desmarque and Le Buteur).

It appears as though West Ham could face strong competition for Mandi now, however.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is alleged keen to bring the centre-back to Anfield according to El Gol Digital.

West Ham to miss out on Aissa Mandi to Liverpool?

With Klopp ‘very keen’ to sign the Algerian, the Hammers will have their work cut-out.

Fabian Balbuena faces an uncertain future at West Ham, so David Moyes will surely be looking for central defensive reinforcements this summer.

The problem for the Scot is that there are so many areas of his squad that need attention.

So the chance to sign Mandi for absolutely nothing would be one that will undoubtedly appeal to the West Ham manager and the board.

He is a top class defender as well. Mandi has scored three goals in 27 La Liga games this season. In those outings, the 29-year-old has averaged one tackle, 1.4 interceptions and 3.1 clearances per game. He has also won an average of 1.5 aerial duals per match (Who Scored).

Liverpool chasing the Betis ace is a real inconvenience. If Jurgen Klopp makes a concrete move to sign the 29-year-old, the Hammers’ hopes could very well be dead in the water.

The East London outfit will surely regret not having moved to sign the Algerian sooner.
