West Ham striker Andy Carroll’s departure appears to have been confirmed by his partner Billi Mucklow on Instagram. Mucklow posted a picture of Carroll and the couple’s two children with the caption: “Farewell West Ham”.
Carroll, who reportedly earns £90k-per-week (The Telegraph), is out of contract this summer. The injury-prone striker’s latest setback surely ended his slim hopes of earning a new deal.
And this seems to have been confirmed by Mucklow. Carroll’s departure seems more and more inevitable and he said his West Ham farewells at The London Stadium on Saturday.
Andy Carroll at West Ham
West Ham signed Carroll from Liverpool in 2012, initially on a season-long loan. In seven seasons in East London, the 9-cap England forward has only managed 142 games.
During that time, he has scored 34 goals. But after managing only one strike in 14 matches this season, Carroll’s time at West Ham is coming to an end.
On his day, the 30-year-old is unplayable. With his 6ft 4in frame and his physical approach, he is a powerhouse in the air and a useful target man.
But unfortunately, West Ham have rarely seen this in the past few seasons. And this term, Carroll looked half-fit when he did play before picking up another injury.
Getting Carroll off the wage bill was necessary and a new deal was never likely after he picked up another injury.
