There has been some big goalkeeper revelations for West Ham with two now possible coming in and one going out.

New West Ham head coach Julen Lopetegui was himself a top level goalkeeper as a player.

Lopetegui came through at Real Madrid and made one appearance for the first team.

The Hammers boss also played for bitter rivals Barcelona and got a solitary cap for Spain, spending the majority of his playing career at Logrones and Ray Vallecano.

As a result of the fact he used to be a goalkeeper himself, West Ham’s new head coach reportedly plays a more involved role in that department than most managers.

Lopetegui made big changes to the coaching staff at West Ham when he arrived. He got rid of all of the first team staff bar one – fellow Spaniard and goalkeeper coach Xavi Valero.

One of his first ports of call in the transfer market has been reshaping his goalkeeping options too.

West Ham were already short of experienced cover last season.

That was before Lopetegui elected to allow Joseph Anang and Jacob Knightbridge to leave this summer.

It has been claimed that a deal has been agreed for West Ham to sign free agent Wes Foderingham on July 1st.

Foderingham will compete for the number two spot with Lukasz Fabianski.

Now there’s been further news on the situation.

Big goalkeeper revelations for West Ham

According to TeamTALK, FC Copenhagen have agreed a £2million fee with West Ham for goalkeeper Nathan Trott.

West Ham took up the two-year option in Trott’s contract earlier this summer.

But it seems that was purely to ensure the Hammers get a transfer fee for the 25-year-old.

It also gives new perspective to a fresh claim from journalist Alan Nixon.

The Sun reporter says West Ham are looking at signing veteran Dutch goalkeeper Tim Krul after the expiration of his Luton contract.

Nixon is unclear on whether West Ham are moving for Krul in addition to Foderingham or instead of the ex Sheffield United man.

Although he does state on his Patreon that Foderingham is yet to commit to West Ham.

“West Ham are considering a surprise move for veteran keeper Tim Krul at the end of his Luton Town contract,” Nixon states.

Two now coming in as another leaves?

“Krul is a possible solution to a cover position problem for the Hammers who had originally made Wes Foderingham their ideal signing.

“Foderingham is yet to commit and Krul comes with a similar background and the kind of knowledge needed if called on. The Dutchman will also have other admirers and possible first team chances elsewhere.”

Considering West Ham did not replace Darren Randolph or Dave Martin and are letting three goalkeepers go this summer, perhaps signing two veterans is the plan after all?

Especially as Fabianski is likely going into the last year of his time at West Ham.

Krul was given the title of best substitute ever made after a bold call by Louis van Gaal to bring him on for Holland’s penalty shootout against Costa Rica the 2014 World Cup.

It was also revealed last month that Lopetegui is set to make a decision on what to do with 21-year-old Hammers academy graduate goalkeeper Krisztian Hegyi.

“He is thought to be highly thought of in West Ham circles, but it will be down to former keeper turned head coach Julen Lopetegui to decide his fate with one year remaining on his current contract,” club insider Sean Whetstone said previously.

While there seem to be plenty of plates spinning, one thing that is absolutely certain is that Alphonse Areola will surely be West Ham’s number one next season.
