The Hammers made a £23 million bid for the Fiorentina centre-back during the summer transfer window according to a report from Gianluca Di Marzio.

Calcio Mercato suggested that the Serie A outfit were demanding closer to £35 million, however.

West Ham will have been keeping a very close eye on Milenkovic this season.

The Hammers hopes of signing him took a hit last week, however, with football journalist Fabrizio Romano claiming that Manchester United entered the race for the Serbian.

Mission impossible now for West Ham as Liverpool join race for Nikola Milenkovic?

Corriere dello Sport (February 27th, page 19) claims that Reds boss Jurgen Klopp wants to bring the 23-year-old giant centre-back to Anfield this summer. In fact, Liverpool have allegedly already made contact with the Fiorentina defender’s agent.

If that is the case, West Ham surely have no hope now. And that’s a huge shame.

Milenkovic would be a superb addition for the Hammers.

In 22 Serie A appearances for Fiorentina this season, the Serbian has scored two goals and registered one assist. In those outings, he has averaged 1.6 tackles, 1.4 interceptions, 3.2 clearances and one block per match. The 23-year-old has won an average of 3.5 aerial duals per game and has an 86.6% pass completion rate from an average of 54.6 passes per match (Who Scored).

The Fiorentina ace is an exceptional talent.

With Liverpool and Manchester United now thought to be chasing the centre-back, however, West Ham will surely regret having not wrapped up a deal for him last summer.
