Barcelona-owned star coming to West Ham this summer by Royal appointment, but does David Moyes really need him?

West Ham United have been linked with a Barcelona-owner star with a regal name.

West Ham could exploit Newcastle for duo if Moyes’s old pal Bruce drops

According to Calcio Mercato, West Ham boss David Moyes wants to sign Brazil international Emerson Royal.

The right-back is currently starring on loan at Real Betis, who are of course managed by former West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini.

RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.

West Ham linked with Barca-owned defender currently starring for Betis under ex Hammers boss Pellegrini

The man who replaced Pellegrini at West Ham has made it clear he intends to rebuild the Hammers around young, energetic, talented players hungry to prove themselves in the top flight. Much like the Red Bull model.

Moyes has insisted he would need a few 28/29-year-olds to help with the transition.

And he certainly has that in brilliant right-back Vladimir Coufal.

The Czech star turns 29 next season and is as fit as a fiddle.

But Moyes’s back-up options at West Ham are limited. Ryan Fredericks is injury prone and inconsistent while academy graduate Ben Johnson blows hot and cold.

Royal fits Moyes Red Bull recruitment model, but do West Ham really need him if money is going to be tight?

So it is not inconceivable that West Ham would be looking to sign another right-back this summer.

And Royal looks a quality player who ticks all the boxes in terms of fitting Moyes’s recruitment profile. He is 22 and a bundle of energy up and down the right hand side.

Royal also has 10 assists and five goals from right-back in 69 games.

West Ham would reportedly face competition from Arsenal according to Mundo Deportivo.

At a reported £23m Moyes will surely prioritise other key positions in next window

The big question is do West Ham really need a right-back in the next window, given their alarming lack of depth in other key areas and likely limited funds Moyes will have to operate with?

The Scot must sign at least one – if not two – strikers and at least one new central midfielder.

West Ham must also try to ensure a deal gets done for Jesse Lingard, who has been a revelation on loan from Manchester United.

With Sport claiming Barca want around £23million for Royal it seems this rumour can go straight in the ‘highly unlikely’ pile.
