Awful Max Kilman could finally be ousted as West Ham make £21m move for 6ft 5in colossus

Max Kilman has unquestionably been one of the worst signings West Ham United have made in recent memory.

The fact that West Ham parted with £40 million to sign Kilman from Wolves now looks genuinely negligent.

Wolves supporters warned Hammers fans about Kilman when we signed him in the summer of 2024.

Unfortunately, those Wolves fans have been proven right.

Humiliation at Molineux…

Where does this rank among West Ham's WORST ever Premier League defeats?

Jarrod Bowen of West Ham United appears dejected during the Premier League match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Ham United at Molineux on January 03, 2026 in Wolverhampton, England.

The 28-year-old has been extremely poor for West Ham and it’s no exaggeration to suggest that he has been the Hammers’ worst central defender since Roger Johnson.

Time and time again he has been at fault for goals that we have conceded, most recently with the reckless challenge he put in against Brighton which led to the Seagulls being awarded a penalty.

The good news for West Ham fans is that Nuno Espirito Santo appears to be keen to bring in a centre-back before the January transfer window closes.

Awful Max Kilman could finally be ousted at West Ham

If the Hammers are to avoid relegation this season, Kilman absolutely cannot be allowed to play one more game.

He is a disaster waiting to happen every single time he takes to the pitch.

West Ham’s defence is porous enough as it is, and Kilman’s presence just instils unnecessary panic and fear into his teammates.

Now Kilman’s time at the London Stadium could be well and truly done.

That’s because O Jogo are claiming that the Hammers have already made a move to sign Lecce centre-back Tiago Gabriel.

Standing at 6ft 5in tall, Tiago Gabriel is an absolute man-mountain.

He is an absolute nightmare for opposing strikers due to the physicality that he plays with and with that in mind, he’s perfectly suited to the robust nature of the Premier League.

A sign of the 21-year-old’s quality is the fact that Barcelona and Bayern Munich both want to sign him as well.

Lecce will allegedly part ways with Tiago but only for a minimum fee of £21 million.

Tiago Gabriel a major upgrade on Max Kilman for West Ham

In 17 Serie A appearances for Lecce this season, the Portuguese centre-back has averaged 1.9 tackles, one interception, 6.2 clearances and 3.8 successful aerial duels per game.

He has made 38.5 passes per match and has recorded an impressive completion rate of 88.9% (Who Scored).

How do you PREDICT Pablo and Castellanos will get on at West Ham?

And who is coming next, do you think?

Pablo for Gil Vicente FC celebrates scoring goals in the Portuguese Primeira Liga soccer match between Boavista FC and Gil Vicente at Estadio do Bessa in Porto, Portugal, on April 1, 2025.

Gabriel has comfortably surpassed Kilman in every single one of those categories and crucially, he is far less error-prone than the former Wolves centre-back.

Tiago Gabriel replacing Max Kilman at West Ham would be a bigger upgrade than when the Apple iPhone ousted the Nokia 3210.

The Lecce defender is better in the air, on the ground, in the challenge, and with his feet than Kilman.

Signing Tiago Gabriel from Lecce for just £21 million in January should be an absolute no-brainer for West Ham.

However, whether the Hammers will be able to beat the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich in the race for his signature remains to be seen.
