West Ham United are interested in Atlanta midfielder Miguel Almiron and now they know what it will take to get him.
According to TyC Sports in Argentina, MLS star Almiron may be signing for West Ham in January.
Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini is nursing a Premier League-worst injury list.
He has lost midfielders Andriy Yarmolenko, Manuel Lanzini and Carlos Sanchez for the season. And Jack Wilshere has rather predictably spent most of the season out through injury so far.
Pellegrini has already said he will be looking for reinforcements in January.
Samir Nasri is training with the club with a view to signing if he can prove his fitness.
West Ham move backed but loan a no-go
The East Londoners need more creativity and Paraguayan Almiron – dubbed the best player in Argentina before his move to MLS – fits the bill perfectly according to South American football expert Tim Vickery.
After a £100 million splurge in the summer West Ham co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold may be more inclined to try and get the playmaker on loan with an option to buy.
It is the type of deal the duo have favoured in the past.
But now Atlanta president Darren Eales has spoken out telling suitors like West Ham what they must do if they are serious about landing his star man (Sky Sports).
‘He won’t go for chump change’
“I have seen some laughable things in the press, clearly we are never going to loan one of our players out and we are certainly not going to let them go for the chump change that I have seen in some reports,” he told Sky Sports.
“If it’s a proper, serious offer then it’s something we would consider, but not for the laughable figures that I have seen mentioned in the press.
“He has proved in these two years that he is by far and away one of the best players in the league.
“(Almiron) is still a young player, he is a Paraguay international and it’s brilliant he can cope with the physicality of the Argentinian league with Lanus and also the MLS.
“He is an amazing player, he was one of the best players on the pitch in both of the All-Star games that we played against Juventus and Real Madrid.
Almiron would be a real coup for West Ham
“I have no doubt that when the time is right, and the offer is right, he can be a success in whatever league he goes to.”
Almiron would be a real coup for Pellegrini.
He would also link up with his international teammate Fabian Balbuena should the East Londoners win the bidding.
Almiron has notched 22 goals and 29 assists in MLS over the last two seasons, finishing second in MVP voting this term behind record-setting teammate Josef Martinez.
