Andy Carroll could make a move to a Major League Soccer team when he leaves West Ham this summer, according to The Times.

Carroll’s contract expires this summer and after managing just 14 games and one goal, he has not earned an extension on his £80k-per-week deal (The Times).

The 30-year-old has just undergone ankle surgery, ruling him out for the remainder of the season. And with his contract running out, Carroll has played his final game in claret and blue.

With his West Ham career over and a lengthy lay-off, Carroll faces a battle to regain his fitness when he is a free agent.

Whether another English club takes a punt on the injury-prone striker remains to be seen. But his record of fewer than 150 games in seven seasons at West Ham will worry potential suitors.

The 9-cap ex-England international could instead look to make a move abroad. And the MLS is a possible option for him.

The lure of the United States has attracted several English players in the past and Carroll could be the next to move across the Atlantic.

And Carroll’s departure will free up wages for West Ham to focus on bringing in a new striker in the summer.
