West Ham are leading the race to sign Roma ace Amadou Diawara according to a report from Forza Roma. His agent’s recent comments on Arsenal could prove to be a problem for the Hammers, however.
David Moyes really needs to bolster his central midfield ranks at the London Stadium in either January or next summer.
And Diawara would be a truly excellent addition for us. Especially for the reported fee of just £22 million (Forza Roma).
The 23-year-old’s agent Daniele Piraino recently suggested that his client would only be tempted to move to a ‘prestigious’ club like Arsenal, however, when speaking exclusively to Tutto Mercato Web:
“Diawara is at a top club like Roma, where he is happy, as there is enthusiasm around the new owners. However, he is also liked by many clubs in England, including Arsenal. Being linked with certain clubs is pleasing for him, as these are prestigious sides.”
Those comments highlight just how hard West Ham’s task of signing the 11-capped Guinea international will be.
Work cut-out for Moyes
It is clear that his agent and the player himself will only leave Roma if it is for a club who are challenging for major honours. And whilst Arsenal are struggling at the moment, it is clear that they have more potential than us.
The only thing in our favour is that Gunners boss Mikel Arteta recently brought Thomas Partey to the Emirates. So it is doubtful that the Spaniard will want to sign another defensive midfielder so soon after the Ghana international’s arrival in north London.
If the Hammers can tempt the £22 million ace into moving to east London, however, it would be a real sign of our ambition.
Diawara is an incredibly energetic, ball winning midfielder. The 23-year-old has stamina and pace to burn. And he seems to have all of the qualities needed to succeed in the Premier League what with the intense nature of his playing style.
The Guinean midfielder would be exceptional for us. Once described as ‘precocious’ by talkSPORT, the 23-year-old is exactly the kind of player West Ham should be looking to sign. Let’s just hope that Arsenal don’t turn their attention towards the Roma ace.
