West Ham’s lack of depth in the wide attacking department has been laid bare this season.
Michail Antonio suffered a serious hamstring injury at the end of August. And he was subsequently ruled out for 3-4 months.
The 29-year-old’s absence has put a lot of pressure on the likes of Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmonlenko to produce week in, week out.
So the addition of another top class wide player will surely feature highly on Manuel Pellegrini’s January wish-list.
The Sun reported last week that West Ham are keen on signing £36 million-rated AC Milan winger Suso.
And the Spaniard would be perfect for the Hammers.
Suso possesses exceptional technical ability. And his creativity and guile would provide West Ham with a different kind of threat in the wide areas.
At 25, he is at an age where he will surely go on to improve even further still. And in today’s day and age, £36 million for someone with the AC Milan ace’s quality would represent a real steal for the east London outfit.
Suso’s potential arrival at the London Stadium would help lift the burden off Anderson and Yarmolenko’s shoulders.
His ability to play on either wing, or even through the middle, would provide Pellegrini with more variety to his tactical setup.
And the Chilean must do everything within his power to bring the tricky Spaniard to West Ham either in January or next summer.
