West Ham United loanee Niclas Fullkrug has impressed people at AC Milan – but it does not look like being enough to keep him at the club long-term.

Fullkrug joined Milan from West Ham United on loan in January after a largely miserable time of things in east London.

The German has scored only one goal in 12 games and while it was a decisive one in their pursuit of Champions League football – a winner against Lecce in January – Fullkrug hasn’t made a huge impact for Milan on the pitch

Now, some insight into how those at the San Siro feel about him has emerged.

Milan unlikely to sign Fullkrug as he’s not a long-term investment

According to Calciomercato, Fullkrug is expected to leave Milan despite the fact the club have the option to buy him permanently at the end of the season for around £4.3million.

The 33-year-old is said to have impressed people behind the scenes with his willingness to play through the pain barrier – something that may surprise supporters here in east London.

However, the money involved in making it a permanent arrangement does not represent any sort of long-term value, given the player’s age.

While frustrating from a West Ham perspective, it’s an understandable conclusion to reach.

Milan may be one of the biggest clubs in the world in terms of name but not every European league boasts the financial power of the Premier League, so spending may not be quite as easy.

West Ham could soon be in a difficult position with Fullkrug

It’d be fair to say the player hasn’t really put himself in the shop window out in Italy.

As such, the Hammers could be in a difficult position when it comes to the summer transfer window.

Fullkrug will still have two years to run on his contract if and when he returns from Milan at the end of the season, after all. Quite how they would move him on this summer remains to be seen.

Agreeing such a low fee with Milan was hardly ideal but it at least provided a degree of clarity.

Fullkrug was a poor signing for West Ham and the problems may not be over yet.
