It’s that time of the week once again, time to check in with West Ham United’s various different loan stars and find out how they’ve been getting on at their various different clubs over the last seven days as Robert Snodgrass’ Aston Villa were dealt a promotion blow and Moses Makasi’s Plymouth Argyle marched on in League One.
Robert Snodgrass (Aston Villa)
It would be a busy week for the Scottish winger and Steve Bruce’s side as they were in action twice, hosting Queens Park Rangers and travelling to Bolton Wanderers in two vital matches in their promotion push.
Disaster would strike twice for Villans as they slipped to 1-3 and 1-0 defeats with Snodgrass starting in both and playing the full match in the first and 82 minutes in the second, failing to impact either match profoundly, the run saw the Midlands club fall to fourth position, they face Hull City away from home after the International break.
Martin Samuelsen (Burton Albion)
Sticking with the Sky Bet Championship, the young Norwegian winger and his Brewers side under Nigel Clough continued their fight for survival at the bottom of the table facing Sheffield United and leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers away from home.
Samuelsen missed both trips through an injury sustained in training as Albion went down 2-0 and 3-1 to narrow their chances of remaining in England’s second tier, they’re now three adrift of safety in 23rd, journeying to high-flyers Cardiff City on the Saturday after the break.
Reece Burke (Bolton Wanderers)
To finish in the Championship, things were a little quieter over the past week for the Academy product defender and Phil Parkinson’s Trotters, only playing host to Snodgrass’ Villa over the weekend.
Burke started in the vital shock victory at centre-back, playing a key part in the home side shutting out the away side at the Marcon Stadium, three points meant that Wanderers leapfrogged Reading into season-high 19th, boosting their own bid to stay in the division, next up will be Leeds United on Good Friday.
Reece Oxford (Borussia Monchengladbach)
In the faraway land of the German Bundesliga, young defensive prodigy Oxford, much like Samuelsen, was forced to sit out his loan team’s most recent fixture through injury.
Dieter Hecking’s men welcomed Hoffenheim to Borussia-Park, playing out a thrilling 3-3 draw, the versatile youngster will be hoping to return after the Internationals when Die Fohlen go head-to-head with Mainz on the road, the draw kept them in ninth place.
Moses Makasi (Plymouth Argyle)
Back in England, in Sky Bet League One, U23 vice-captain Makasi and Derek Adams’ Argyle were able to carry on their march towards unlikely promotion at home to Bristol Rovers on Saturday.
Plymouth defeated their West Country rivals 3-2 with the starlet making his second start for the club and plying 93 minutes on the right side of midfield, that’s seven victories in eight for the Devon side, who moved back up to sixth and face Charlton Athletic next Saturday.
Antonio Martinez (Real Valladolid)
Finishing in the sunny climes of Spain, prolific young striker Martinez is earning vital experience back in his homeland with Luis Cesar Sampedro’s Valladolid in the Segunda (second) Division.
The Hammers’ U23 top-scorer came on as a late substitute in the club’s comeback home victory over Almeria on Sunday afternoon, as a result of the triumph, they moved up to seventh position with a trip to Lugo in the offing next weekend.
