Lucas Perez silenced a few doubters by leading West Ham to victory last night.

The Spaniard netted a brace, his first Premier League goals for the club, to guide West Ham to a 3-1 win over Cardiff City at The London Stadium.

Perez joined West Ham in the summer from Arsenal but has found game time hard to come by.

Before last night, both of his goals had come in the cup and he had even been omitted from the match day squad on a few occasions.

But he seized his chance last night, proving a few West Ham fans wrong in the process.

Groans when Perez came on

Perez got his chance just before half-time when Marko Arnautovic limped off with an injury.

Manuel Pellegrini could have brought on Grady Diangana, Andy Carroll or a defender and pushed Michail Antonio further up.

But instead, he placed his faith in Perez, who was given a 61-minute run-out.

Perez’s introduction prompted a handful of negative comments from frustrated West Ham fans on Twitter.

But West Ham fans were soon eating humble pie after Perez sparked West Ham into life.

Replacing fan favourite Arnautovic was always going to be tough, especially with Cardiff defending doggedly.

However, Perez needed just four second-half minutes to put the Irons ahead after he was teed up by Robert Snodgrass.

The 30-year-old added a second five minutes later when Arthur Masuaku squared for him to finish.

Here are what some surprised West Ham fans said about this.
